The Rockets defeated host Austin LBJ 70-61 in match play to open the Austin LBJ Bob Hayes Tournament. Tony Allen led all scorers with 20 points and Patrick Ramos and Tristan Clark both scored 11 points.
In the nightcap, the Rockets were clipped 69-73 in overtime by Katy Seven Lakes. The Rockets played without two starters, Patrick Ramos who had stitches in his head from the LBJ game, and Devin Blair who was out sick. Tony Allen led the Rockets with 19 points and Brandon Armstrong knocked down 17 points. The Rockets were again plagued by uncharacteristic poor free throw shooting, making just 14 of 23 from the charity stripe, including just 6 of 12 in overtime to lose the lead. The Rockets are 13-3, with all three losses coming in overtime.
The Rockets play homeschool power Oklahoma City Storm at 1:30 pm to conclude match play, then take on Austin Hyde Park to begin bracket play at 4:15 pm.
